ErrNET® Case Studies
Case 1
Client
San Jose State University, San Jose, California USA
Situation
Student papers included many spelling, grammatical, and punctuation errors, which added many hours to the review and grading process.
Solution
ErrNET was implemented and required for each student.
Results
After the first month that ErrNET was implemented, the quality of student writing improved significantly. In addition, ErrNET saved time for class instructors and allowed them to focus on content, rather than on technical writing errors.
One professor that we interviewed stated that before implementing ErrNET, a graduate student in English proofread his papers. ErrNET ultimately replaced the graduate student because it was a superior, more cost-effective solution. ErrNET was also permanently implemented because it is instructive, i.e. the detailed explanations for each error reinforce grammar and syntax rules and improve writing.

Case 2
Client
International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA
Situation
ISMRM publishes Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, a top-tier biomedical imaging journal. The Editor-in-Chief noted two major problems with the editorial process. First, the poor writing quality of submitted manuscripts was straining the editorial system, i.e. it was costing extra time for their already overworked reviewers and editors. Second, errors overlooked during the editorial process were being printed at an unacceptable rate.
Solution
All submitted manuscripts were proofed with ErrNET as the first step in the editorial process, and then again as a final check before going to print.
Results
After implementing ErrNET, editorial time was reduced significantly and the overall writing quality of the journal improved.
