Aloud is with the normal tone and volume of the speaking voice, as distinguished from whisperingly; vocally, as distinguished from mentally.

Allowed and aloud are types of homonyms called heterographs, which are words that are pronounced the same but have different spellings and meanings. These words are often misused in English writing because of their identical pronunciations.
